Green tea is the most popular in East Asia. Black tea is the most common type of tea consumed in Western countries.

Mountain tea (genus Sideritis) is endemic to Greece. In Crete, the herb Origanum dictamnus is used instead of tea.
In Southeast Asia, black tea with milk and spices called Masala Chai is famous. Specifically, black tea is poured into boiling milk and then sugar is added and the following ingredients ground into powder: ginger, black pepper, cloves and cardamom.
